Thinking of upgrading your phone? Apple, Samsung and Google all released new phones in the fall of 2018. If you’ve thought of upgrading your phone and are wondering which one to choose, read our reviews of the iPhone XS Max, Galaxy Note 9, and the Pixel 3 XL.

First, let’s talk about size:

  • iPhone XS Max: 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7mm
  • Galaxy Note 9: 161.9 x 76.4 x 8.8mm
  • Pixel 3 XL: 158 x 76.7 x 7.9mm

  • The Samsung Note 9 is the biggest and thickest of the lot due to its extra-tall screen and S Pen, while the iPhone XS Max has the biggest screen of the lot at 6.5 inches. Not to be discredited, the Google Pixel XL has a screen that is 523 pixel per inch.

  • iPhone XS Max: 6.5-inch OLED, 1242 x 2688, 458 ppi
  • Galaxy Note 9: 6.4-inch OLED, 1440 x 2960, 516ppi
  • Pixel 3 XL: 6.3-inch OLED, 1440 x 2960, 523ppi

  • Next up, Battery Life

The Note 9’s 4,000 mAh battery can get you through the most days without recharging frequently. But the iPhone XS Max is more than able to get you through a full day, even with the smallest battery among these three phones. And while the Pixel 3 XL has a smaller battery than the Note 9, it should also be plenty big enough to last from morning till night.

  • iPhone XS Max: 3,179mAh
  • Galaxy Note 9: 4,000mAh
  • Pixel 3 XL: 3,430mAh

  • Camera Features

  • iPhone XS Max: Dual 12MP wide-angle (f/1.8) and telephoto cameras (f/2.4), dual optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom
  • Galaxy Note 9: Dual 12MP wide-angle (f/1.5-2.4) and telephoto cameras (f/2.4), dual optical image stabilization, 2x optical zoom
  • Pixel 3 XL: 12.2MP, f/1.8

  • Google added an extra camera on the front of the Pixel 3 XL for a feature called Group Selfie Cam. Using a slider at the bottom of the screen, you can adjust the camera from a 75-degree field-of-view to a 97-degree one to capture more people in your shot. There’s also a new feature called Photobooth that will trigger the shutter when you smile or make a funny face. Apple uses its front camera for Animoji and Samsung has a similar but inferior feature called AR emoji. All three phones are able to take portrait selfies, but Apple also brings portrait lighting to the table.

All 3 phones comes with a hefty price tag upwards of $1,000.00
  • iPhone XS Max: $1,099/$1,249/$1,449
  • Galaxy Note 9: $1,000/$1,250
  • Pixel 3XL: $899/$999

  • The nextGen smartphones are all impressive and we hope this guide helps you in finding a smartphone that will best fit your needs.
